About The Partnership To End Homelessness

The Partnership to End Homelessness was founded in 1999 to accomplish two goals:Melanie Anewishki, Executive Director of Featherfist, helped organize the first South Side regional collaborative.
    • To create a collaboration among homeless service providers that would strengthen our provision of services
    • To create a collaboration between service providers and government that would have far-reaching impact on the provision of homeless services.
To attain these goals, the Partnership undertook two crucial objectives:
    • Build Partnership membership to create a strong body of service providers
    • Create a planning body that would bring together government, service providers and other key allies to do planning around homelessness in Chicago.
In pursuing these objectives, the Partnership has created an activated and vocal membership totaling 85 agencies. Partnership members lend their expertise to public policy development, with the ultimate goal of ending homelessness.

One of the Partnership's most notable achievements has been its involvement in a citywide planning process on homelessness. The Partnership's roles in this strategic planning process were crucial:Partnership Board members Arturo Valdivia Bendixen and Allison Nanni. developing champions of the process from among its member agencies, creating collective vision and leadership, keeping members constantly abreast of the process and providing opportunities for their involvement, and hosting special events with speakers who provided vision and direction.

The ultimate result of the planning process was the creation of Chicago's five-year plan to end homelessness, "Getting Housed, Staying Housed," which has received national recognition and has been endorsed by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.
